Colchester care home celebrates milestone with special guest

Home news

A care home in Colchester has celebrated its thirtieth birthday, welcoming relatives, friends, members of the local community – and a very special guest.

Residents at Care UK’s Tall Trees, on Oaks Place, were joined by Councillor Martin Goss, Ward of Mile End, for a fun-filled 1950s themed afternoon and to help unveil a commemorative plaque.

To mark the milestone, Councillor Martin Goss assisted Home Manager, Alice Banda, in unveiling a commemorative plaque and delivered a speech highlighting the impact the home has had on the community over the last three decades.

Making the occasion extra special, everyone enjoyed live entertainment from local group, Mini Concerts, who performed a range of classic 50s. To help refuel after an afternoon of dancing, the home’s talented catering team prepared a range of tasty canapes and delicious drinks.

Since opening in 1994, Tall Trees has built strong relationships with the local community, including local schools and nurseries. Over the years, the home has won numerous awards thanks to the team’s strong focus on person-centred care – as well as being crowned the 2022 winners of a local care home bake-off.

Brenda Kelly, whose husband lives at Tall Trees, said: “It was a great party – compliments and thanks to the organisers, and a special thanks to the chefs for the delicious canapés!”

Alice Banda, Home Manager at Tall Trees, added: “It was lovely to see the residents, their families and the local community come together to celebrate three decades of Tall Trees.

“The team worked so hard to make the day a special one and it certainly paid off. Everyone had a wonderful time and the party was a fantastic opportunity for residents to spend quality time with family and friends, as well as to meet new faces. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Councillor Martin Goss for joining us for the occasion too.

“The last thirty years have been full of exciting trips, building new relationships and, most importantly, creating lasting memories for those who live here. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone that helps to make Tall Trees a wonderful place to call home – here’s to the next thirty happy years!”

Tall Trees provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own café and dedicated Namaste room.
