Thame care home resident celebrates 96th birthday with 97 cards from the community

A Thame care home resident has celebrated her big birthday with 97 cards from family, friends and the community.

Jean Davidson who lives at Care UK’s Cuttlebrook Hall, on Stock Road, celebrated her 96th birthday on 1st January with family, residents, and team members.

Jean was born and raised in Broughty Ferry, Scotland, where she began her career teaching young children at a primary school. After marrying her husband Baxter in her 20s, Jean moved to Sevenoaks, London, due to Baxter's work as a civil engineer. It was here that they raised their four sons.

In her professional life, Jean transitioned to becoming an antiques dealer. Outside of work, Jean travelled the world with her husband, visiting numerous countries, including France and Brazil, and spent four years living in Argentina. Now, Jean enjoys various hobbies, including Scottish Ballroom dancing, pampering herself, and listening to classical music.

To help make Jean’s 96th one to remember, the team called on the local community to send in birthday cards with the aim of reaching 96 cards. In total, Jean received a whopping 97 cards to open on her special day, which will be placed in a scrap book for Jean to look back on.

Commenting on the birthday cards, Jean said: “I would like to look at each and every card and thank the individuals for sending me a card on my birthday’.

In addition, the home held a party to celebrate Jean’s birthday with her favourite combination - prosecco and a cake made by the home’s kitchen.

Alanna Corr, Home Manager at Cuttlebrook Hall, said: “Here at Cuttlebrook Hall, we love to throw a party for special occasions – and Jean’s birthday certainly called for a huge celebration!

“Jean loves to look back at her memories and we wanted to mark the incredible milestone in a special way. It was wonderful to see Jean’s face light up as she opened her cards, and the special scrapbook will help Jean remember her birthday celebrations for years to come.

“The team worked tirelessly to make sure her day was one to remember, and we would like to thank everyone who sent a card for Jean – you really made her day!”

Cuttlebrook Hall is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes a cinema, hair salon and café.
