Chingford care home welcomes local cadets for surprise performance

A Chingford care home welcomed a local cadet squadron for a surprise performance to mark the end of summer.

Team members at Care UK’s Ivy Grove on Hatch Lane welcomed local Air Cadet unit, 27F Chingford ATC, for a live demonstration of their static drill sequence, as a surprise for the residents. The squadron, which is made up of 15 cadets, marched around the home’s garden much to the residents' enjoyment, before later patrolling around the home in true cadet fashion, to speak to the residents.

Following the parade, residents enjoyed conversations with the squadron about what being a cadet entails, their badges and achievements and their favourite moments from flying in the sky.

Commenting on the day, resident Iren Davis said: “It was a lovely day, and it was so nice when the cadets spoke to us afterwards about our time at Ivy Grove.”

Resident, Richard Hawe, added: “My favourite part was the drill they did for us – I really enjoyed watching them.”

Alexander Bragg, General Manager at Ivy Grove, said: “We had a wonderful time welcoming the cadets to Ivy Grove – the sun was certainly shining for their performance in the garden, which both residents and team members thoroughly enjoyed.”

“It was great to see the residents sharing their stories with the cadets – many of which served in some capacity during the war. Events like these offer a wonderful way to encourage reminiscence, which can be incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to the cadets for a wonderful afternoon and hope to see them back at Ivy Grove soon. 27F Chingford ATC, Ivy Grove salutes you!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ivy Grove incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among residents.
