It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at a care home in Colchester, after the team and residents welcomed a local Scout group to spread the festive cheer.
Residents at Care UK’s Silversprings, on Tenpenny Hill, were joined by children from 4th Brightlingsea Beaver Scouts, who performed a festive carol service, with songs including Jingle Bells, When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney and Christmas Pudding.
After the carol service, the children read their favourite Christmas stories with the residents. The evening ended with pizza, chips, mince pies, cakes and hot drinks for all.
Kath Page, 98, said: 'It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The children were very well behaved but full of life and the residents and children both benefitted from the visit.'
Joanne Rix, Home Manager at Silversprings, said: “Here at Silversprings, we are committed to playing an active role in the community, which is why we were thrilled to open our doors to Brightlingsea Beaver Scouts to get into the festive spirit.
“Intergenerational relationships are incredibly enriching for both younger and older people, as they provide an opportunity for the different generations to learn from each other. This was a lovely opportunity for residents to reminisce about their happy Christmas memories and share stories with the children.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to Brightlingsea Beaver Scouts for coming along to celebrate the festive season with us, and we’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from all of us here at Silversprings.”
Silversprings is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes a hair salon and café.
