Edgbaston care home residents celebrate Eid

Residents at a care home in Edgbaston celebrated Eid with an afternoon embracing Indian culture.

Residents at Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, celebrated Eid with an Indian themed lunch and a special performance from professional, local bhangra dancer, Vijay from Nashda Sansaar.

As part of the celebrations, team members dressed in traditional Punjabi clothes to perform a short Indian inspired dance routine, alongside Vijay for the residents to enjoy.

Keen to dress for the occasion, residents also dressed in traditional Punjabi scarves and learned more about the history of the celebration while enjoying traditional Indian cuisine prepared by the Home’s Head Chef, which included resident favourite – samosas, lentil dahl and chicken saag.

Commenting on the event, resident Shamim Butt, said: “I enjoyed celebrating Eid Al Adha and sharing the joy with my family and friends at Metchley Manor.”

Kim-Marie Newton, General Manager at Metchley Manor, said: “The team had a great time dusting off their dancing shoes to perform for the residents to celebrate Eid.

“At Metchley Manor, we are committed to ensuring the home is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone, where different cultures and interests are regularly celebrated through memorable activities which promote positive wellbeing.

“Everyone had a great time celebrating Eid and learning more about its history and purpose. We are already looking forward to planning our next celebration!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Metchley Manor, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
