The royal treatment – Worcester care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Residents at a care home in Worcester have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen. 

Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, has marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone with a traditional street party inspired celebration.  

On the day, residents and families were invited to tap their feet to live entertainment from Helen Pearson, who sang classic tunes from the 1940s, and everyone took part in a special crown-making competition, as well as a host of royal-themed games and some patriotic face painting. 

To top the afternoon off, everyone was a treated to a barbecue lunch, specially prepared by the home’s chef, rounded off with frozen delights from an ice cream van. 

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Perry Manor. 

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood. 

“We have many royalists here at Perry Manor, who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
