The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

Care UK enjoyed a right royal knees up for the Platinum Jubilee

Like the rest of the UK, we were thrilled to be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Many of the residents living in our homes remember the Queen’s coronation in 1953, celebrated the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees, and have followed the milestones of the royal family over the seven decades. So, it’s little wonder they were keen to celebrate her 70th anniversary in style!

One home keen for a royal knees up is the aptly named Mountbatten Grange in Windsor. With the castle in view from the home, it’s no surprise that many residents are huge royalists – which is why we decided to give them the ultimate surprise ahead of the Jubilee.

The home’s usual coffee shop area was completely transformed without residents knowing, and decorated with red drapes, royal portraits, ornate decorations and, of course, a giant throne for their royal highnesses to be crowned Queens and Kings for a day. The home’s head chef, Mohamed Taghouti, prepared a delicious afternoon tea for residents to enjoy, which was served by team members dressed as the Queen’s guards.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the home also welcomed a very important four-legged guest to join residents for the occasion. His royal furriness, Marcel Le Corgi, made a special appearance – greeting Mountbatten’s new royal family with a majestic bark and wagging tail.

Nobody could believe it, especially when they saw us all dressed up as the Queen’s Guard. We had so much fun, and we’re already planning our next big surprise for residents to enjoy.
