A Witney care home resident has laced up her walking boots for a good cause.
It may be a small step for Liz Hindley, a resident at Care UK’s Millers Grange, on Curbridge Road, but it’s certainly a giant leap for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Throughout the month, Liz set herself the challenge of walking 28 miles – or a mile a day – by combining daily walks around the home’s grounds and longer excursions in the local area.
As part of the initiative, Liz is hoping to raise £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society via her fundraising page.
Liz said: “I am a keen walker and love to get outside for exercise and fresh air. I am delighted to be helping a good cause the Alzheimer Society and hope I can inspire others!”
Alison Parry, Home Manager at Millers Grange, added: “We’re incredibly proud of Liz – she’s set herself quite the challenge, and we’re excited to support her all the way.
“Gentle exercise can do wonders for older people. Walking also has the added benefit of encouraging residents to spend time outdoor and connect with the nature around us, which can really boost mental and physical wellbeing.
“Our lovely garden provided Liz with the perfect place to stretch her legs and eat up some miles between bigger walks.
“Go Liz – we’re all behind you!”
