Special guest helps Mitcham care home celebrate milestone anniversary

A care home in Mitcham was joined by a special guest to celebrate its 25^th birthday.  

The Care UK team at Cumberland, on Whitford Gardens, invited the local MP, Siobhain McDonagh, to attend an outdoor socially distanced but fun-filled afternoon of celebrations to mark the special day.

The local MP spent time celebrating with residents and enjoyed birthday cake and a host of tasty treats specially prepared by the care home’s chefs to help mark the special day in style.

The resident’s families joined the team and residents for a garden party and 75-year-old resident Kenneth Kavanagh had the important job of cutting the cake. 

Siobhain officially unveiled a plaque to celebrate Cumberland and the care the team have given to many residents since it opened 25 years ago. 

Sunita Aucharaz, Home Manger at Cumberland, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating this significant milestone. Over the last 25 years we have achieved a ‘Good’ CQC rating, celebrated 60^th wedding anniversaries and 100^th birthdays and raised funds for Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and many more.

“Our 25^th anniversary is a special event for Cumberland, and it was an absolute joy to host this event and invite Siobhain into the home. We are very proud of the strong relationships we have built with the community here in Mitcham, and we are looking forward to welcoming our neighbours back in the near future. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Siobhain for joining us on this special occasion.”

Kenneth Kavanagh, a resident at Cumberland added: “It was great to have the MP visit Cumberland. I really enjoyed myself and enjoyed having my daughter and granddaughter join us for the celebrations.”
