Cupcakes for a good cause – Care home residents and local scouts bake up a storm

A care home in Poole has teamed up with local scouts to raise over £180 for Cupcake Day.

Residents at Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road, joined forces with Broadstone Scout Group for a bake sale in support of Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day and raised £186 to support people affected by dementia.Cupcakes for a good cause – Care home residents and local scouts bake up a storm

Residents baked cupcakes, which were sold alongside cakes baked by Scouts and their parents, and The Potteries own Pastry Chef, Anna Holland, provided a variety of different flavored cupcakes that went down a treat.

The team of Scouts joined team members outside at The Potteries for a day of selling, sunshine and smiles all round. In addition to the bake sale, residents enjoyed cupcakes in the home’s café and also took part in a entertaining baking-themed quiz.

A day of fun was had by all, with everyone looking forward to joining forces in the future, to help other worthy causes. One resident at the home, Jane, swapped the baking for selling as hungry customers flocked to the stall and queues began to form.

Zita Turner, Home Manager at The Potteries, said: “The cake sale was a hugely successful and rewarding event that was enjoyed by everyone involved. We have a close relationship with Broadstone Scout Group, so were delighted they could be on hand to support The Potteries team for a worthy cause.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to involve the local community and create relationships with different groups across all generations. This activity was a great opportunity to build on the relationship we have with Broadstone Scout Group, while raising money for a cause that will help people affected by dementia.

“The interactions, laughter and joy between the Scouts and the team here at The Potteries was lovely to see, particularly since it has been so long since events like this could take place due to COVID restrictions.

“We look forward to another visit from the Scouts very soon and involving them in more of our activities when restrictions allow.”
