Our own little GEM

Each month Care UK runs an award competition across its care homes to find those people who have Gone the Extra Mile (GEMs) and we were all delighted to find out that our own Activities Coordinator Christiana Dike is now officially a GEM.

Manager Gay Libre, who nominated Christiana, said: “I am very proud of Christiana, she is Charlotte House’s very first GEM winner. She always goes the extra mile to ensure our residents live active and fulfilled lives doing the things they enjoy.

“Her hard work ensures that residents stay as independent as possible and she always talks to them about what they would like to do and what trips they would enjoy and, as a result, we have very happy and engaged residents.”

Christiana said: “I was so pleased when I heard I had won a GEM award. “I love my work. I cared for my father when he was ill and that made me realise the importance of excellent care and it gave me the nudge I needed to make caring my profession.

“A day at work can be tiring, as I am on the go working with residents all the time. But each day I can’t wait to get back into work and start all over again.”
