Charlotte House saddles-up for pony visit

Residents at Charlotte House welcomed a very special ‘neigh-bour’ when Sooty the pony visited.

The friendly pony created a stir when she trotted into Charlotte House.

Residents were thrilled to havethe opportunity to stroke and pet her, as well as enjoy an informative talk on her personality and how she is cared for. Sooty was rescued by her owner, Maxine, and now spends her days happily visiting care homes and enjoying the fuss and attention.

Sooty was taken on a tour of the care home, visiting residents on each suite to ensure everyone had the opportunity to meet and interact with her.

Zoe Smith, home managerat Charlotte House, said: “It was wonderful to introduce Sooty to the residents here at Charlotte House. You could see from their reactions just how engaged the residents were when given the opportunity to get so close to such a lovely animal.

“Sooty was friendly and calming, and we know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people – especially for those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation – and Sooty was brilliant at doing just that!”
