A Birmingham care home celebrated the Chinese New Year in style.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Metchley Manor, on Church Road, put on a special celebration to mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
On the day, residents enjoyed a special tasting menu of traditional Chinese cuisine, created by the home’s Head Chef, based on the resident’s favourite dishes.
The home was also decorated with large ornate fans and red and gold balloons. The team also organised a Chinese-inspired craft session, where residents created their own lanterns while learning more about the culture and background of Chinese New Year.
Residents were also treated to a performance by professional dancers, Wan Sheung Chinese Cultural Dancers.
91-year-old resident, Margaret O’Conner, said: “It was such a lovely day. I enjoyed tucking into all the different foods and the dancers were incredible to watch!”
Kim Marie Newton, General Manager at Metchley Manor, said: “Everyone had a fantastic time marking the Chinese New Year.
“Here at Metchley Manor, we enjoy celebrating and learning about different cultures, and residents are always keen to try new foods and share their own experiences of different countries and their traditions. The lunchtime menu was a real hit – I think we’ll be having a few more Chinese-inspired dishes on our menu in the coming weeks.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Metchley Manor, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities.
