Wedding bells have been ringing out at a care home in Sway, after a resident was surprised with a re-enactment of her granddaughter’s wedding, after she was unable to attend the special day.
Shirley Crampton, a resident at Care UK’s Sway Place, on Church Lane, was unable to accompany her granddaughter, Amelia, and now grandson in-law, Nathan, on their special day, so the team at Sway Place decided to bring the big day to the care home and contacted the family to plan a surprise re-enactment.
Wedding celebrations were in full swing with the team going above and beyond to ensure the day went off without a hitch. The home was decorated with balloons, wedding bunting, and a special wedding breakfast which was enjoyed by everyone.
Of course, the main attraction came in the form of the bride’s wedding dress. Amelia was delighted to show her grandmother her wedding gown in person.
Commenting on the afternoon and how she felt seeing Amelia in her dress, Shirley said: “I was overcome with emotion when I saw Ameila. She looked beautiful in her dress, and it was lovely to have my whole family present. It was a joy to be part of their special day and one I will never forget – just magical!”
Francis Owusu Bosompin, General Manager at Sway Place, said: “We were delighted to bring Amelia and Nathan’s special day to Sway Place for Shirley. It was incredibly hard keeping the plans a secret, but it was worth it to see her surprise when Amelia and Nathan arrived in their wedding attire. Shirley had a wonderful afternoon surrounded by her close family. This was a very emotional and happy occasion that brought joy to a very special grandmother.
“All of the residents enjoyed the ceremony and seeing the love and proudness that was so beautifully apparent on Shirley and her families faces as Amelia and Nathan said, ‘I do’, brought more ‘tears’ to the residents and team than was on the wedding cake!
“We are so pleased Shirley got to experience her granddaughter’s wedding and wish the couple happiness in their marriage!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Sway Place incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, dementia care and respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, and 14 independent living cottages, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
