Local care home residents had a quack-ing morning with feathery friends.
Residents at Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, were paid an unexpected visit by Havoc the European Kestrel, Henry the Barn Owl and Pickle the Burrowing Owl.
The birds of prey were brought in by Kellie from Walks with Hawks, and residents were able to handle and stroke the beautiful creatures before learning about how to care for the birds and what their favourite foods were.
Commenting on the afternoon, Perry Manor resident Pam Fitzgerald, age 82, said: “It was so lovely to see the birds - it made a nice treat!”
Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “Here at Perry Manor, we are always looking for new and exciting experiences for residents to try.
“The session was a huge success, and it was lovely to hear residents reminisce and share stories about their own family pets. Animal therapy is hugely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can help lift a person’s mood and encourage social interaction too. It was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces!
“We want to say a big thank you to Havoc, Henry and Pickle, as well as Kellie at Walks with Hawks for bringing the birds along. It was a lovely day for everyone involved.”
Perry Manor is a state-of-the-art Care UK home, which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care.
