Edgbaston care home resident reveals secret to a long life on her 103rd birthday

 

A 103-year-old Edgbaston care home resident has revealed that her secret to living a long and happy life is to “drink plenty of wine.”

Ellen Taylor, a resident at Care UK’s Edgbaston Manor, on Speedwell Road, shared her advice to mark her 103^rd birthday, while celebrating with those nearest and dearest to her.  

In celebration of Ellen’s birthday, a special day was organised by the team at Edgbaston Manor, who decorated the home with balloons and banners and presented her with a birthday cake prepared by the home’s head chef. To mark her special day, Ellen was joined by her family, friends, and fellow residents at Edgbaston Manor, who raised a glass of wine to toast her milestone. 

Ellen was born on the 13^th October 1921 in Lancaster. During the Second World War, Ellen lived in multiple locations, starting in Northumberland and followed by a few days in India, before continuing to Sri Lanka. 

After the war, Ellen studied a teaching course in Birmingham where she met her husband, Alexander Taylor, who was a portrait artist. The couple had no children which allowed them to pursue their love of travelling, which took them to New Zealand, where they spent several months living.
