It was a very special day at a care home in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, as a care home resident celebrated reaching a huge milestone.
Hilda Waterhouse, the 36th oldest person in Britain*, marked her 109th birthday at Care UK’s Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road. To celebrate the special occasion, the home’s talented Head Chef prepared an afternoon tea for Hilda to enjoy with her family and fellow residents. The team ensured the scene was set for the day by decorating the lounge with birthday banners and balloons.
Hilda was born on the 1st July 1915 in Altrincham. In 1939 she married her husband, George Waterhouse, at St George’s Church in Altrincham. Shortly after, they moved to Sale and had two daughters, Beryl and Judith and one grandson, Micheal.
Suzanna Sumegi, General Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “Hilda is a much-loved resident at Halecroft Grange, and it was wonderful to help celebrate such a momentous birthday.
“The team work very hard to help residents live fulfilling lives and celebrate special occasions – and birthdays play a huge role in this. Hilda’s 109th birthday definitely called for a celebration, and it was great to hear so many amazing stories about Hilda’s life from her family and friends.
“We feel very lucky to have Hilda as part of the Halecroft Grange family and enjoyed raising a glass of bubbly to toast her special day – happy birthday Hilda!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Halecroft Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
