Local care home residents giddy up for Texas themed dance class

Residents at a Church Crookham care home proved there’s no time to wasteas they donned their cowboy boots for a Texas-themed dance class.

Residents at Care UK’s Bourley Grange, on Bourley Road, were surprised to find their living room had been transformed into a Texas desert for a special dance class.

On the day, residents enjoyed a country themed performance from local dancers, Barn Dance Line Callers, before taking to the saddle and trying their own moo-ves. Team members and the residents dressed up for the occasion, donning cowboy boots and enjoyed joining in with the dancing after the performance had finished.

Commenting on the afternoon, resident, Jean, said: “I had a fantastic evening – I loved learning about the dancing with my friends. My favourite part was when you swing your partner by the arm – that was quite the move!”

Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley Grange, said: “This August, we wanted to giddy up and do something different for the residents by bringing Texas to Church Crookham for the ultimate dancing afternoon.

“It was great to see the residents learning from the professionals and taking to the dance floor to some big Country classics – the smile on their faces said it all. It was a lovely day for all the residents, and certainly one we’ll remember. Yee-haw, Bourley Grange!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Bourley Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and memory care in addition to respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
