Suffolk care homes host sports days for local community

Home news

With the Olympics fast approaching, local care home residents are limbering up for their very own sporting tournament.

Care UK’s Cedrus House, on Bittern Cresent, Cleves Place, on Millfields Way, Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, and Mills Meadow, on Fore street, will be bringing Paris to Suffolk as they open their doors for local people to enjoy their own version of the Games.

The events come as these four homes join The Big Care UK Sports Day, which sees over 130 Care UK homes across the UK host sports days for the local community and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Guests can soak up the sporting atmosphere and, for those daring to compete, have the chance to win their own gold medals with an afternoon of fun and games, including egg-and-spoon races, tug of war and knockout tennis tournaments.

There are four events to choose from across the region:

Visitors to Cleves Place, Hartismere Place, and Cedrus House can enjoy refreshments, a barbecue, and performances from live entertainers. Cleves Place will also feature interactive stalls, face painting, and a fun temporary tattoo station.

Mills Meadow visitors will also enjoy a summer barbecue prepared by the home's head chef. A DJ will also be in attendance for residents to enjoy music while participating in the games.

Clare Mooney, Home Manager at Cleves Place, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our own sporting celebrations across Suffolk.

“We are part of a strong community, and days like this are a fantastic way of bringing us all together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year’s summer of sport, all while showcasing exactly what life is like at Care UK care homes.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter and enjoyment for all involved, but also is an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones – while keeping active. We can’t wait until kick-off!”

Cedrus House, Cleves Place, Hartismere Place and Mills Meadow have been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The homes provide full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
