Care UK’s success at the Care Home Awards

Care UK colleagues are celebrating three successes from this year’s  Care Home Awards after securing two wins and one high commendation. The ceremony was held in London on Friday 17th May.

The Care Home Awards, which are seen as sector-wide recognition of care provider excellence, are held annually. The categories celebrate innovation and excellence in care home management, operation, and delivery in the UK.

This year, Care UK was proud to sponsor the reception of the awards, and welcomed attendees with a photobooth to ensure that everyone was able to get a picture to mark the event.

During the ceremony itself, Murrayside, in Edinburgh, took home the Best for Nursing Care Award. Something that caught the judge’s attention was the introduction of the home’s Namaste care room and its benefit to residents.  Namaste care is specifically tailored to people living with advanced dementia, Namaste sessions are run by trained carers and involve individual caring touch, such as a hand or foot massages, music therapy, themed sensory and gentle movement sessions, or simply reminiscing. Since the introduction of the Namaste room, results have been outstanding and have made a meaningful impact. A total of 25 team members have been trained in delivering these sessions to residents, and it is believed that this activity has contributed to falls at the home having halved in just three months.

Halecroft Grange, in Altrincham, won the Outstanding Care Provider in a Group Award for the team’s work in providing Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, which has proven to be invaluable in improving the lives of those living with dementia. Residents are encouraged to talk about their lives, encouraging memory stimulation and meaningful conversations. Delivered within a person-centred approach, discussion topics are selected based on a wide variety of factors and are tailored to residents’ individual needs.

Care UK’s Bedtime Stories campaign received a High Commendation in the Best Care Home Marketing category. In 2023, to celebrate National Storytelling Week, the Bedtime Stories initiative saw residents across the UK read classic bedtime stories to young children. The campaign, which included the launch of four free videos of residents reading famous stories, ensured children who may not have a grandparent did not miss out on a magical tale before bedtime.
