Care UK’s shortlisting success at the Stars of Social Care Awards

Care UK colleagues are eagerly anticipating the Stars of Social Care Awards, where they have been shortlisted in four categories.

The awards will shine a light on the stars of social care, paying tribute to the care workforce, who, through dedication and a commitment to care, go above and beyond to support those who are most vulnerable.

Sam Shepard, Activities Co-ordinator at Field Lodge in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, has been shortlisted for the Amazing Activities Co-Ordinator Award. One point that caught the attention of the judges is Sam’s dedication to the Love to Move exercise programme. The results from the programme have been remarkable – with some residents able to get on and off the minibus with more ease, and Sam receiving regular praise from the visiting physiotherapist.

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor in Worcester, has been shortlisted for the Dementia Specialist Award. Something that sets Katherine apart from others is her positive risk-taking approach across the home, this means residents can make a cup of tea or meal of their choice when supervised. Through supportive and compassionate care, the use of antipsychotics and benzodiazepines have reduced by 35%, and the home team try to manage distress through meaningful occupation and engagement.

Jan Delos Santos, Care Assistant at Rush Hill Mews in Bath, has been shortlisted for the Inspirational Care Home Worker Award. Jan is someone who inspires his colleagues to provide the highest standard of care, and he is committed to best practice by mentoring all new colleagues. His genuine and caring nature to not only the residents, but also their loved ones, is something that powered Jan’s shortlisting.

The final shortlisting is for Care UK in the Recruitment and Retention Award category, where statistics drew the attention of the judging panel. This was particularly true of the results of Care UK’s most recent employee satisfaction survey, which saw 97% of all colleagues say that they feel proud of the work they do.

The award ceremony will be hosted by TV host Josie Gibson at the London Marriott Hotel, on the 15th June 2024.
