Residents at a care home in Eye spent the afternoon in the company of several furry friends.
Residents at Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, welcomed a pair of loveable alpacas, Galahad and Clifton from Wymondham Alpacas.
The residents were able to interact with their new furry friends, as well as learn about their characteristics and how to care for the gentle creatures.
Commenting on the experience, Cynthia Ridger, aged 94, a resident at Hartismere Place said: “It was lovely to meet the alpacas, their coats were so thick and felt lovely!
“I really enjoyed learning about the differences between alpacas and llamas. I remember going on a llama trek once and the animal got spooked and tried to run away – these alpacas were much calmer!”
Claire Martin, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, added: “We’re always looking for new, fun activities to put a smile on the residents’ faces.
“Animal therapy is incredibly beneficial for many people, creating a calming environment and prompting conversation. For many residents who have owned pets themselves, having animals visit is a great way to reminisce and share treasured memories from younger days.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to Wymondham Alpacas for gracing us with the company of Galahad and Clifton – both the residents and team members certainly had a lovely time!”
Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
