Yate school children get arty for new care home

Home news

Local school children have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Yate’s newest care home.

Students from North Road Community Primary School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’ to dcorate the hoardings surrounding the new care home, on Fletcher Road.

The purpose-built care home – which is expected to open its doors in Autumn 2024 – will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 75 older people, with facilities including its own cinema, hair salon, café and landscaped gardens.

Eight-year-old Daisy, a student at North Road Community Primary School, said: “I really enjoyed taking part in this project – lots of people will be able to stop and see the pictures and watch the care home being built.

“I drew my little cousin, who is two. I like taking care of her and I think we should all look after each other!”

Angela Zuraw, Regional Director for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with North Road Community Primary School on this fantastic art project to brighten up our hoardings.

“It was great to welcome the pupils to see their pictures proudly displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects and building intergenerational relationships when the first residents begin to move in next year.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new Care UK home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
