Mic drop! Community joins Bury St Edmunds care homes for ultimate summer festivals

Care homes across Bury St Edmunds got into the swing of festival season this week – with two special events taking centre stage.

The teams at Care UK’s Davers Court and Glastonbury Court were joined by the people of Bury St Edmunds for a summer to remember.

Davers Court’s Summer of Love Festival saw guests put on their dancing shoes and let loose to classic hits throughout the decades, thanks to a special live performance from local singer, Darrin Sings. Visitors were also treated to a barbecue, specially prepared by the home’s talented Head Chef.

Those venturing to the aptly named ‘Glastonbury at Glastonbury Court’ festival were dancing to the beat of the drum as they enjoyed a unique banjo performance to start the day off in style. Guests were then able to soak up the classic tunes with a live performance from local singer, Brian Shaw, before being treated to an immersive Punch and Judy show.

The fun-filled festivals formed part of Davers and Glastonbury Court’s Care Home Open Week celebrations, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Chris Thompson, a resident at Davers Court, said: “I really enjoyed the day, and the music and food were so good – it was lovely to see the home full of people and I also enjoyed having a dance with the team!”

Sophie Evans, Home Manager at Davers Court, commented: “We were delighted to welcome the Bury St Edmunds community to our summer festivals to party the afternoon away.

“The special events at both homes offered a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the community and show them what life at a Care UK care home is all about. We loved getting our dancing shoes on and giving everyone a chance to showcase their best moves.

“We’re already planning our next summer events so keep your eyes peeled – it’s set to be a summer to remember!”
