Care home to help local people understand more about dementia

A care home in Bury St Edmunds is inviting the local community to learn more about dementia.

On Monday 2nd September, from 10am-12pm, Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, is inviting members of the community to learn more about dementia by delving into the topics not usually discussed.

Aimed at those caring for a loved one living with the condition, the session will provide practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

To help with the session, Davers Court is welcoming Angela Hodge, Senior Customer Relations Manager, from sister care home, Hartismere Place, who will help explain what it’s like to live with dementia, as well as discuss the types of support available for family carers and advice for engaging with a loved one living with the condition.

Care UK’s free guide, Let’s Talk About Dementia, also offers insight and guidance in an easy-to-read Q&A format. Tapping into more than 40 years of experience providing care for people living with dementia, the guide includes knowledge from Care UK’s experts, including Home Managers and team members from more than 150 care homes.

Sophie Evans, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “Navigating the changes that come when caring for a loved one living with dementia can be difficult and we understand this.

“With vast experience caring for residents living with the condition, the team here at Davers Court have plenty of knowledge and advice to share to offer comfort, guidance and support.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Angela Hodge for what we anticipate will be an incredibly helpful afternoon for all involved.”

Davers Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable the residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
