Blooming marvellous! Local care homes win big at Bury in Bloom

Two local care homes have been celebrating after winning big at Bury in Bloom.

Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, was thrilled to be named overall champion of the Bury St Edmunds flower competition, while Care UK’s Glastonbury Court took home the bronze award for its incredible floral creations.

The gardens are a result of the hard work of the lifestyle and maintenance teams at both homes. With the help of their resident gardening clubs, the teams spend time choosing and planting flowers, maintaining the areas, and coming up with creative arrangements ahead of the competition, which takes place each year.

Davers Court’s impressive garden creations include an impressive water feature, a bug house made of recycled materials and a vegetable garden. At Glastonbury Court, the home’s dementia-friendly garden includes a shaped crown flowerbed to pay tribute to Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and an impressive water feature in honour of the home’s late resident and avid-gardener, Peter Mobbs.

Sophie Evans, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “We were over the moon to take home gold at this year’s Bury in Bloom.

“The team works tremendously hard to ensure our outdoor spaces continue to look impressive, and that the garden is a calming place for residents to enjoy. Residents look forward to Bury in Bloom each year, especially when the competition heats up between us and our friends over at Davers Court, who we spend a lot of time with!

“I’d like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the team, residents and relatives who have worked tirelessly and supported us to make this happen – it feels blooming fantastic to win this award!

Ana Mihai, Home Manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “We were thrilled to have received the bronze award and it’s all down to the hard work of the residents and team. Watch out Davers, we’re coming for gold next year!”

Davers Court and Glastonbury Court are modern care homes providing full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the homes have their very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation. Now officially open, the Davers Court Day Centre will be open to the community every Wednesday and Thursday, from 9:30am – 4pm, and will open throughout the week depending on numbers.
