A care home in Eye hit the back of the net when they organised a special surprise for a football-mad resident.
The team at Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, kicked off the day when they welcomed members of a local football club to present football-fanatic resident, 75-year-old Trevor Pull, with a special gift.
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC’s number one fan, Trevor, has been a longstanding supporter of the club since he was ten years old – attending football games at the Molineux Stadium with his brother in younger years.
When the care home team learned of Trevor’s love for the club, they were quick to arrange a football-themed event in his honour. The home contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and they kindly gifted Trevor with an official Wolves FC football shirt, printed with his name, along with a Golden Boot award for his penalty-taking skills.
For the special event, the home invited players from local club Eye Saints FC for the football shirt presentation, followed by a friendly kick about in the home’s garden with the under 12s team and Trevor’s grandchildren.
Trevor’s daughter, Becky said: “Dad loved it – he enjoyed watching the children and getting to join in the game and take some penalty kicks.”
Claire Martin, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “We always like to go the extra mile for residents here at Hartismere Place, ensuring residents can continue to enjoy their hobbies and favourite pastimes is incredibly important. Trevor speaks so passionately about his love for the beautiful game and especially Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, so we were really excited to host such a special day for him.
“Trevor was thrilled when we surprised him with the shirt, and excited to meet local players from Eye Saints FC for a friendly game. It was a fantastic afternoon talking all things football, and we were pleased to be able to give Trevor the opportunity to reminisce about a club that has meant so much to him since his childhood.”
Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care.
