A burger fit for a King! Witney care home residents celebrate the Coronation

A care home in Witney celebrated the coronation of King Charles III with a garden party for the local community. 

In a celebration fit for royalty, residents at Care UK’s Millers Grange, on Curbridge Road, invited relatives and the local community to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation with a special barbecue in the home’s garden. 

Keen to recreate the street parties of the 1950s, team members decorated the garden with Union Jack flags, bunting and balloons, and had tables and chairs laid out for residents and relatives to enjoy a royal barbecue lunch.

Commenting on the afternoon’s celebrations, resident Ida Awde, 96, said: “I had such a lovely day – it was great to see everybody enjoying themselves. I can remember the coronation of King George the 6^th and Queen Elizabeth when she was a pretty young girl. It’s so nice seeing Charles become King too!”

Alison Parry, Home Manager at Millers Grange, said: “Here at Millers Grange, we love any excuse to celebrate, and the King’s Coronation certainly gave us one. Everyone had a fantastic time welcoming the Witney community for a right royal knees-up and reigning in the royal celebrations under the glorious British sunshine!  

“Many of the residents remember the coronation of the Queen, so the barbecue garden party provided a lovely opportunity to share stories and reminisce over fond memories and how times have changed.

“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to the team for organising a wonderful day – here’s to King Charles!”
