Going once, going twice, sold! Hale Barns care home joined by celebrity guest for charity auction

A care home in Hale Barns was joined by a special guest for its very own charity auction.

Adam Partridge, one of the UK's best-known antiques specialists, joined residents and family members at Care UK’s Halecroft Grange, on Hale Road, for a charity valuation afternoon raising over £1,700 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Best known for his appearances in the BBC’s ‘Flog It’, Adam valued various pieces that family members and residents had brought into the home, including one visitor’s painting that was valued at over £1,000.

Resident Joan Holden aged 95 said: “The afternoon was great. Adam took some articles for me to sell, he really knew his stuff.”

Another resident Eunice Williams aged 89 added: “I had a writing box valued as I really wanted to know what kind of wood it was made of and more about the item. Adam kindly told me all about it, it wasn’t worth a great deal, but I wasn’t disappointed!”

Over the course of the afternoon, the auction, along with a couple of other internal charity fundraisers raised over £1,700 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Suzi Sumegi, General Manager at Halecroft Grange, said: “We had great fun at our charity valuation afternoon while also raising funds for a cause close to our hearts.

“It was fantastic to be joined by Adam Partridge. Everyone enjoyed talking to him about their items and finding out not only what they were worth but also more about their history. It was also a great opportunity for residents to reminisce about their own life stories and where the items fit into their history.

“Thank you to everyone who joined our charity auction and donated towards the Alzheimer’s Society. We can’t wait to organise our next charity event and welcome everyone back – don’t be going, going, gone for long!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Halecroft Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
