Making a difference – Newbury care home raises money for a good cause

Residents and team members at a care home in Newbury have been celebrating 40 years of excellence in the care sector by raising money for a local charity.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Newbury Grove, on London Road, have been celebrating the organisation’s milestone by hosting a charity fundraiser for West Berks Foodbank.

The West Berks Foodbank provides nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

In honour of its milestone anniversary, Care UK is aiming to raise £40,000 collectively to give back to local communities, charities and organisations across the UK.

The residents fundraised by decorating cloth tote bags with individual designs while the team made three hampers containing luxury items such as wine, chocolates and toiletries. They then sold the tote bags and raffle tickets for the hampers to friends and family.

The team worked hard to complete the challenge for West Berks Foodbank, raising £423 for the charity.

Adarsh Kurian, General Manager at Newbury Grove, said: “We had a wonderful time celebrating Care UK’s 40th Anniversary.

“Here at Newbury Grove, we’re keen to create strong links with our local community and provide support where we can. We’re also passionate about enabling residents to live active and fulfilling lives which is why we thought creating tote bags and making hampers was the perfect way to raise funds for West Berks Foodbank.

“I would like to say a huge thank for everyone who donated to our fundraiser – every penny really helps.”
