Home is where the art is! Chester care home residents to host art exhibition

Residents at a care home in Chester are showcasing their artworks for one special evening.

The team at Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, will be opening the doors to the care home on Tuesday 8th November, from 6pm-9pm, for its first-ever art exhibition.

On the evening, guests will have a chance to admire pieces created by more than 20 residents at the care home. Everything on display feature a range of techniques and styles, including drawings, paintings, framed collages and crafts, all following the same theme – autumn.

The pieces on display will also include breath-taking landscapes paintings from resident artist Maurice Sutherland. Maurice, who discovered painting after he had to take time off work following an operation when he was younger, finds inspiration in the places he’s visited, which is reflected in his art – including scenic views of Lake District.

There will also be an opportunity for visitors to enjoy complementary refreshments in the home’s café and to meet the friendly team at Deewater Grange.

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, said: "We have some incredibly creative residents living here at Deewater Grange, and we can’t wait to celebrate their talent with the Chester community.

“Creative activities play a big part of life here at Deewater Grange, and we actively encourage residents to continue lifelong hobbies – like Maurice – or try new expressive pastimes through imaginative and creative activities planned by our lifestyle team. Painting, for example, has a variety of benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it provides an alternative way to communicate and express emotions, and an opportunity to relive happy memories.

“Our first-ever exhibition is a big milestone for us. Residents have created some amazing pieces, so this is set to be a wonderfully artful evening.”
