Hearts and crafts! Kidderminster care home residents create sculptures for charity

A Kidderminster care home has raised over £400 for a worldwide appeal.

Residents at Care UK’s Brook Court, on Oldnall Road, rolled up their sleeves and got sculpting to raise a total of £440 to donate to The British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Keen to support the people of Ukraine in any way they could, residents created ‘Ukrainian hearts’ during a craft workshop, complete with a blue and yellow painted finish to represent the Ukrainian flag.

The home team successfully sold over 90 of the handmade decorations, with the help of the local pub, the Station Inn, also selling the hearts to local members of the community.

Lucy Polino, a member of the regional fundraising team at The British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal, said: “We were delighted to receive this generous donation from the team and residents at Brook Court towards our nationwide Ukraine Crisis appeal.

“It is with the help of donations from local communities that we are able to continue our efforts as a charity to support those in crisis since the conflict in Ukraine escalated.”

Nirmala Rattu, Home Manager at Brook Court, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to support the The British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal and their hard work in helping the Ukranian refugees.

“The work they continue to do both nationally and internationally is nothing short of remarkable. We hope our small contribution will help make a difference and support those struggling without a place to call home.

“We’re pleased to have taken part in a creative activity that the residents can be really proud of. Art is a very calming hobby, with plenty of therapeutical benefits, especially for older people. We’re excited to see where locals choose to hang their handcrafted hearts.”
