Picture this! Bromsgrove care home resident hosts special exhibition

A Bromsgrove care home resident showcased his photography skills in a very special exhibition.

Breath-taking photographs of landscapes, interiors and people, created by 94-year-old Horace Pritchett, a resident at Care UK’s Chandler Court, on Recreation Road, were displayed in the care home coffee shop as part of a special art exhibition for family and friends.

Art enthusiast Horace developed a passion for photography in his teenage years, travelling around the world to capture new environments, including Australia, where he lived for many years. His portfolio, which he built over 80 years of taking pictures, includes photographs of landscapes, buildings, and people.

Horace was also an active member of two clubs, Ringwood Photography club and Bromsgrove Photographic Society, for almost 30 years.

On the day of the exhibition, visitors and guest speaker and professional photographer Jay Morgan enjoyed admiring Horace’s photographs, chatting to the professional himself about his inspiration, technique and flair. He talked to the residents about his photographs and the cameras that he used and welcomed advice from experienced photographer Horace.

Horace said: “I really enjoyed showing everyone my photographs and talking about my hobby, it was nice to meet Jay too, a young photographer who shares the same passion.”

Vongai Mushinga, Home Manager at Chandler Court, said: “We were delighted to showcase Horace’s artistic talents for residents and relatives to enjoy. It was lovely to hear Horace discussing his photographs, camera types and inspiration behind them. Horace’s creativity inspires many here at Chandler Court.

“Art is a wonderful way for people of all ages to express their feelings and showcase their artistic flare, and hosting the special exhibition was a fantastic way for everyone at Chandler Court to celebrate the art of photography. The photographs were a great topic of conversation and were admired by both residents and team members alike.

“We regularly encourage residents to take part in therapeutic, artistic activities which promote positive wellbeing. Everyone enjoyed learning more about the wonderful world of photography, and the day was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Horace’s creative talents.”
