Epsom care home hits the right note with musical evening raising £877

A care home in Epsom hosted a musical fundraising event for the local community for a cause close to their hearts.

In one night, Care UK’s Appleby House, on Longmead Road, raised £877 which has been donated to Musical Memories, a local charity who hold a weekly musical service for people with memory impairment and their carers. The group is led by professional musician, Barbara Christopher.

The team at Appleby House welcomed residents, relatives and the Epsom community to its garden for an evening of music to mark Care UK’s 40th birthday. All Care UK homes are celebrating the 40th birthday by raising money for good causes.

Residents, relatives and the local community enjoyed live music from local performers, James Schouten, Barbara Christopher and Darren Watkins, who each sang decade spanning hits for all ages to enjoy.

Guests to the party also enjoyed a buffet made by the home’s Head Chef, Maya Manoj and created by Hotel Services Manager, Andrew Musset. Partygoers indulged in a menu inspired by different cultures, including a Mediterranean platter which featured homemade hummus and warm pitta breads, a French platter complete with a baked brie, an Indian snack selection and a gourmet fish finger sandwich.

Shona Bradbury, Home Manager at Appleby House, said: “The residents had a fantastic evening and were thrilled that such a wonderful amount was raised for charity.’

“Music has many therapeutic benefits for older people - particularly for those living with dementia - as it can help bring back long-forgotten memories, while encouraging social interaction and communication.

“We are very passionate about the role music can play in older people’s lives, so it was great to share the benefits of music with the local community – which showcased some of Epsom’s finest homegrown talent. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the night a success and look forward to welcoming the community back to Appleby House for future events.”

Appleby House has been designed to encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while remaining as independent as possible in a safe environment. The modern home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care.
