Care UK named finalist in three categories for the National Dementia Care Awards

Highlighted home news

Care UK teams are delighted that they have been shortlisted in three categories for the National Dementia Care Awards.

These awards are held annually and recognise the best in dementia care across the sector, paying tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance within their field of work.

The first shortlisting in the National Dementia Care Awards is for Care UK’s dementia expert Suzanne Mumford, Head of Nursing, Care and Dementia in the Best Dementia Care Inspiring Leader category. Her approach to care and leadership not only focuses on the quality of life for residents living with dementia but also the impact it can have on their loved ones.

The Home Manager at Appleby House, Shona Bradbury, is one of the finalists in the Best Dementia Care Manager category, having been recognised by colleagues and residents for her continual hard work at the home. Through Shona’s passion for meaningful engagement, the home has evolved to meet residents’ needs and interests, such as creating an in-house Art Studio.

The teams at Millers Grange are celebrating as the home is in the running for the Best Dementia Care Home category. The Home Manager, Alison Parry has extensive experience in supporting people who demonstrate stressed/distressed behaviours and understands the vital importance of the environment, colleague responses, and understanding the individual in supporting people with dementia. The team is focused on enabling each person who is living with dementia to achieve their individual aims – everything is person-centred.

On speaking about Care UK’s shortlistings, Director of Care, Quality and Governance, Rachel Gilbert said, “Our approach to care is structured around four core pillars: health and wellbeing; living well with dementia; meaningful lifestyles; and dining with dignity. By investing to strengthen these pillars – through colleague training, improved processes and new technologies – we aim to enable all residents living in our homes to live as independent and fulfilling a life as possible. I would like to wish good luck to all the finalists, and I do hope they bring the winning trophies home.”

The results will be announced during the National Dementia Care Awards ceremony at Winchester on 29th September.
