A resident at a care home in Solihull has shared the secret for living a long and happy life on her 101st birthday.
A very special birthday celebration took place at Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, when resident Beryl Mills, known as Millie Mills, turned 101 years ‘young’.
To mark the occasion, Beryl revealed her secret was to ‘stay active and get plenty of sleep’, stressing the importance of staying active as you get older.
To celebrate, the home decorated the lounge with balloons and banners, and the home’s talented head chef baked a special birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.
Beryl was born on 31st May 1921 in London. Keen to experience the world, Beryl spent two years working in the RAF where she was based in Egypt in an administration role. It was during this time Beryl met her husband, Gordon, and the two years later they married in the county in 1945. After the war, Millie and Gordon returned to the UK where she worked for herself an accountant.
Heather James, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Blossomfield Grange, and we always like to throw a party for special celebrations – and Beryl’s 101st birthday was no exception.
“It was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone with her family here at Blossomfield Grange and raise a glass to a fantastic milestone – cheers to Beryl!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Blossomfield Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
