A resident at a care home in Kingston Vale has shared the secret for living a long and happy life on her 100th birthday.
A very special birthday celebration took place at Care UK’s Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, when resident Peggy Everett turned 100 years ‘young’.
To mark the occasion, Peggy revealed her secret to longevity was ‘fresh air, being on the go and discovering new places’.
To celebrate, the home decorated the lounge with balloons and banners, and the home’s talented head chef baked a special birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.
Peggy was born on 6th April 1922 in Clapham, London. After leaving school at the age of 14, Peggy quickly started her career by working in an office doing a range of administrative jobs. Further into her career, Peggy worked at the General Post Office as a telephonist for 41 years, where she also worked in the private branch exchange for the government.
A keen explorer, Peggy often enjoyed walks around London during lunchtimes, especially around the West End and the city’s parks. When she was younger, Peggy would often spend her weekends travelling to different places by bus, with her favourite trip out being a visit to Brighton for a fish and chips. Peggy has also enjoyed several holidays to America with friends, often travelling around by bus, with her favourite place being San Francisco.
Rick Mayne, Home Manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “Peggy is a much-loved resident at Sherwood Grange, and it was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone with her friends here at the care home.
“Here at Sherwood Grange, everything we do is focused around our ethos of ensuring residents live active and fulfilling lives, so we always like to celebrate important milestones – and Peggy’s 100th birthday was no exception. It was lovely to raise a glass together on her special day.”
