Grease is the word – Stansted care home goes back to the 50s for special event

A Stansted care home took a trip down musical memory lane – and it was electrifying!

Care UK’s Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, decided it was time for residents to shape up and party at a very special Grease the Musical themed event.

Team members and residents decorated the home with balloons and rock ‘n’ roll wall hangings, donned their pink jackets and wigs, and dug out their inflatable guitars for an afternoon of singing and dancing to famous hits from the film.

As well as watching the film in the home’s cinema room, residents also enjoyed their very own 1950s diner experience, with treats on offer including hot dogs and milkshakes.

93-year-old Mary, who lives at Mountfitchet House, said: “I can’t believe I’ve got to the age of 93 without watching Grease! I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the singing and dancing. When I was younger, in the 1950s, I loved dancing and would go out six, sometimes seven times a week.”

Joanna Duke, Home Manager at Mountfitchet House, added: “Here at Mountfitchet House, we are always looking for new and exciting ways for residents to have fun.

“Grease is a recognisable film with feel-good music, making it the perfect choice for older people, especially those living with dementia. Incorporating themed food and drink into an activity also provides a great way to support resident nutrition and hydration in a fun, novel way, which can encourage appetite and consumption.

“We were all well overdue a party and an afternoon of having a good giggle together. Everyone had a wonderful time, and we’re already planning our next themed activity!”

Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, Mountfitchet House has its very own cinema, bar and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
