A care home in Sale is inviting the community to a free, virtual event for families caring for loved ones living with dementia.
On Thursday 25th November, from 2pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Oakfield Croft, on Oakfield, will be hosting a virtual Understanding Dementia event.
Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.
Daniel Cole, Home Manager at Oakfield Croft, said: “There are currently 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK – and it is estimated that a further 209,600 individuals will develop it this year alone*. We know that this also means many families will be affected too, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.
“It can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia, and we want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people virtually for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”
For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Oakfield Court will host the joint event using Teams, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Jayne Eyre, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.
Oakfield Croft has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence. The new care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities, as well as facilities like a cinema, coffee shop and hair salon.
