A Hailsham care home has officially opened its very own pub, complete with a beer garden, with the help of a special guest.
The Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Paul Holbrook, visited Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, to officially cut the ribbon to open the home’s new pub and join residents and team members for a pint.
The home is now planning to host regular events at the pub, including a quiz night. There are also traditional pub games including darts, dominos and playing cards available for residents and families to use during their visits to help recreate the real atmosphere of a pub.
The resident’s new ‘local’ benefits from a classic pub beer garden, and even features a flower wall for the residents to enjoy. The pub garden is already proving very popular with residents who can now enjoy their favourite tipple with family and friends while enjoying the warmer weather.
Phillip Osborn said: “It was such a wonderful afternoon. The Hailsham Town Mayor served us drinks, it was a real treat. I am looking forward to spending time at the pub with my friends and family. The beer garden is so beautiful, having this wonderful new pub is very exciting for all the residents.”
Ryan Harris, Home Manger at Bowes House, said: “The pub opening was a great success – enjoyed by residents and team members alike.
“For residents, the pub is associated with a lot of happy memories from their younger years, from going out with friends to pub quizzes to Sunday lunches. In addition to a great selection of drinks, Lynn’s Tavern provides an opportunity for reminiscence for many of the residents too.
We’d like to thank the mayor for joining us to make our grand launch extra special – and lending a helping hand behind the bar too!
