Life’s a beach for local care home residents celebrating Suffolk Day

A care home in Eye welcomed special guests to the home to open a newly refurbished outdoor space in celebration of Suffolk Day 2021.

Residents at Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, were joined by Phillip Steyn, Regional Director at Care UK, and Suffolk County Councillor for Thingoe North and Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Rebecca Hopfensperger, to open their new beach hut and to celebrate everything that is great about the county.

Following the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, the newly refurbished beach hut was declared ready for use. Residents toasted the opening, and discussed upcoming plans for beach-themed events over the summer months.

Residents and team members enjoyed tucking into local produce, including strawberries, Suffolk cheeses, pork pies, sausages and ham as part of the special day’s celebrations.

Resident at the care home, Queenie Kingfisher who helped paint the beach hut and officially cut the ribbon, said: “I just want to sit in the beach hut and watch the world go by. I enjoyed painting, as I used to do it at home, and I loved the different foods – especially as they all came from Suffolk.”

Marie Reeve, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “Suffolk Day is a highlight for many people in the community – not least for residents here at Hartismere Place – so we were delighted to be able to celebrate the occasion with a fun event and special visitors.”

Phillip Steyn, Regional Director at Care UK, added: “It was fantastic to join in the celebrations at Hartismere Place and have the honour of helping to officially open the wonderful new beach hut. I’d  like to say a special thank you to County Councillor, Rebecca Hopfensperger, for cutting the ribbon and declaring our beach hut open! Team members and residents alike are really looking forward to using it over the summer.”
