A care home in Cheltenham reached out to carers in the community who have gone above and beyond for the people they care for.
Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, has distributed care packages to carers across Cheltenham and to its team members to celebrate Carers Week.
Carers Week is an annual initiative to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities, often those caring for a loved one, to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
After an initial call-out on the home’s Facebook page, the packages were distributed to those nominated by their loved ones, and contain a variety of indulgent treats, including beauty products, chocolate and scented candles as a thank you for their hard work and selflessness, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In total, 10 packages were given to individuals in the community who have gone above and beyond for others.
Malaika Charles, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “After our initial call-out for deserving carers online, we were overwhelmed with nominations, all containing incredibly heart-warming stories of selflessness.
“Many people in the community are doing unpaid care work looking after relatives. We wanted to share a little love with them in the form of these care and inspire them to take time out for themselves – something we know is often overlooked.
“We often meet carers as part of our short-term respite care, and I’d like to say a big thank you to them all for the fantastic work they do and to our dedicated team here at Sandfields. I hope they all enjoyed their care packages.”
