Lockdown love – Bury St Edmunds care home residents virtually reunite for Valentine’s Day

Residents at two Bury St Edmunds care homes were surprised with some very special Valentine’s Day cards.

They may not have seen each other for almost a year, but love was in the air for residents at Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, on Glastonbury Road, when they received Valentine’s Day cards from their friends at Davers Court, on Shakers Lane.

Lockdown love – Bury St Edmunds care home residents virtually reunite for Valentine’s DayUp until the pandemic hit, residents at the two care homes, which are located close to each other, were used to spending time together, regularly teaming up for annual sports days, visits to the garden centre and days out to Felixstowe.

Although missing their regular meet ups, the homes have been keeping in touch virtually, and residents were thrilled to be surprised with Valentine’s Day cards from each other as they enjoyed a very special afternoon tea to mark the occasion.

Melissa Cuevas, Home Manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “Residents were delighted to receive their Valentine’s Day cards, and it was wonderful to see everyone’s faces light up when they realised who they were from.

“Being so close by, we were regular visitors to Davers Court prior to the pandemic, and residents were keen to keep in touch even if it couldn’t be face to face, which is why we decided to organise a special treat for Valentine’s Day.”

Sally Shadbolt, Home Manager at Davers Court, added: “We had a wonderful time enjoying our special Valentine’s Day afternoon tea, and receiving cards from Glastonbury Court really was the cherry on the cake.

“Everyone is really looking forward to being able to see each other in person again as soon as we are safely able.”

Glastonbury Court and Davers Court are modern care homes that provide full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, both care homes have their very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
