100-year-old Knebworth care home resident reveals the secret to a long life

A Knebworth care home resident has celebrated her 100th birthday and revealed her secret to living a long life.

Marjorie Broadhurst, from Care UK’s Knebworth, on London Road, marked the impressive milestone on 11th February, when she revealed her secret: simply ‘keeping busy’.

100-year-old Knebworth care home resident reveals the secret to a long lifeEnjoying the day with a host of special treats, the team went above and beyond to ensure Marjorie enjoyed a celebration like no other, complete with a champagne toast, birthday cake and a photo album created by sons, Roger and Ian, and the Knebworth team.

Attributing her many happy years to ‘keeping busy’, Marjorie said: “I am thrilled to have reached 100 years old, and to be surrounded by both my real family and my Knebworth family really was fantastic. I had such a wonderful day.”

Vera Moreira-Henocq, Home Manager at Knebworth, said: “Marjorie’s secret to a long life is something we can all learn from! Everyone had a wonderful time celebrating her milestone birthday, and she was particularly pleased to receive her official card from the Queen.

“Here at Knebworth, we always strive to make an occasion of birthdays, and Marjorie’s 100th was no exception. From decorating the home to enjoying champagne and a slice of birthday cake, we certainly marked the occasion in style!”

Marjorie, who was born in Cheshire in 1921, was one of two children. She worked in a factory, making parts of aircrafts during the Second World War, and later went on to work in a flower shop called Dingles.

Marjorie met her husband Ronald at school, who she later married in 1945. The pair had two sons, Roger and Ian, and now have five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Marjorie moved to Knebworth care home in 2019 to be nearer to her son, Roger, she enjoys sewing, knitting and gardening.
