A Bury St Edmunds care home has opened its very own shop so that residents can buy their Christmas gifts from the comfort of their own home.
From cards to children’s games, festive gifts to handmade items, residents have enjoyed getting ahead of the Christmas rush and being able to choose presents for their families and friends from the aptly named ‘Sweets & Treats’ which opened at Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane.
Named by residents, the shop boasts a range of gifts from local sellers, retailers and members of the local community, and was officially opened by resident Vera, who was delighted to cut the ribbon on the home’s latest creation.
Sally Shadbolt, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “We’re thrilled to have officially opened our new shop, Sweets and Treats, to support residents to do their Christmas shopping.
“Here at Davers Court, we actively encourage residents to lead active, independent and fulfilling lives. We usually enjoy a festive shopping trip out, choosing gifts for family and friends, but as the high street has been closed and residents are unable to visit, we decided to bring the shops to Davers Court instead.
“It’s fantastic to be able to support so many local businesses through our Christmas shop. Each item in the shop has been disinfected by a fogging machine to ensure safety, and residents are thoroughly enjoying picking out gifts for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike.”
Davers Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable the residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
