Virtual birthday parties, tipple trolleys and team activities – Bury St Edmunds care home heroes cro

Virtual birthday parties, tipple trolleys and team activities – Bury St Edmunds care home heroes crownedResidents and colleagues at two care homes in Bury St Edmunds have praised team members for their dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Trudy Jennings, lifestyle co-ordinator and senior carer at Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, and Tracey Burnette and Jane Pinto, lifestyle co-ordinators at Davers Court, have been named as ‘Care UK Heroes’ for going above and beyond for colleagues and residents in recent months.

The nominations were shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, this competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.

In addition to her duties as lifestyle co-ordinator, Trudy has been organising virtual birthday parties for residents, ensuring that their families have been able to sing happy birthday, join in with celebrations and watch their loved one open gifts remotely.

Trudy also ensured one of the homes younger residents was able to video call his father on Father’s Day, as well as organising for a card and gift to be sent ahead of the special occasion.

Team players, Tracey and Jane at Davers Court, have kept spirits high by designing an ice cream trolley complete with music, as well as a fully stocked tipple trolley to treat residents to a socially distanced cocktail, beer or glass of wine, delivered to their rooms. As well as keeping residents entertained, the pair have also set up a number of games and activities for team members to enjoy on their well-deserved breaks, including guess the baby photo and face painting.

Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court and Davers Court, said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have Trudy, Tracey and Janes in our teams, and not only for their cocktail making skills! In addition to being fantastic lifestyle co-ordinators, they are all incredibly caring, thoughtful and hard-working people who always put others first.

All three members of the team have been a beacon of light for colleagues too – whether they’ve been organising games and activities to keep spirits high, or simply offering a shoulder to lean on after a challenging day, nothing has been too much trouble.

“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Trudy, Tracey, Jane and the rest of the team enough for their hard work and for continuing to make Glastonbury Court and Davers Court wonderful places to live.”

Glastonbury Court and Davers Court are modern care homes which provide full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, both care homes have their very own cinema and hair salons, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
