Eye care home residents take birdwatch weekend to the ‘nest’ level

Eye care home residents take birdwatch weekend to the ‘nest’ levelResidents at a care home in Eye celebrated Britain’s best birds as part of the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch saw residents at Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, celebrate the best of British birds with some exciting avian-themed activities.

As part of the celebrations, residents were joined by local photographer, Allan Warner, who hosted a photography exhibition of Suffolk’s most magnificent birds at the home.

Team members and residents also created their own bird boxes and feeders, to encourage more wildlife into the garden, as well as playing a variety of avian-themed games.

Abhilash Gopi, home manager at Hartismere Place, said: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities here at Hartismere Place, and we had a lot of fun celebrating this year’s Birdwatch event.

“Everyone enjoyed creating their own bird boxes, and it was great to learn more about the birds living in and around Suffolk. Creative activities can be extremely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as they provide an alternative outlet for expression and communication.

“We’d like to thank Allan Warner for coming to visit us. Residents loved seeing the beautiful images of some of Suffolk’s most magnificent creatures, and we are looking forward to welcoming Allan back to Hartismere Place very soon!”
