How to prevent slips and trips – Witney care home hosts free advice event

A care home in Witney is inviting local people to a free event where they can find out more about preventing falls among older people.

The popular event will be hosted at Care UK’s Millers Grange on Curbridge Road on Thursday 7th November, from 2pm-3.30pm, where experts will be on hand to give advice to the community at the free talk.

Occupational therapist, Sasha Thomas, from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, will be visiting the home to discuss common causes of slips and trips, as well as providing guidance on how to create safer environments for older people. She will also provide activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

After the event there will be a helpful Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the opportunity to meet the team at Millers Grange and take a tour of the care home.

Home manager at Millers Grange, Steve Reader, explains: “Here at Millers Grange, we understand the importance of falls prevention and the impact this has on the wellbeing of older people. We want to ensure that the local community has all the advice and guidance they need to improve their strength and balance and reduce their risk of having a fall, as accidental falls can occasionally lead to further health issues.

“It is imperative that we create a safe environment for older people in Witney, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents. We are looking forward to welcoming local people to Millers Grange for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

Millers Grange provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care. With 52 ensuite bedrooms, it has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. It also features space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

To reserve your free place at the event, email customer relations manager, James Macleod on James.Macleod@careuk.com or call 0333 321 8351.
