Get creative in Cleveland this Care Home Open Day

On Friday 28th June, three local care homes will be opening the doorsfor a free family-friendly event to celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

The team at Hadrian Park, on Marsh House Avenue, will welcoming the community from 1.30pm - 4pm, while Elwick Grange, on Elwick Road, will be welcoming guests from 10am - 4pm. The Willows care home, on Cavendish Road, will be celebrating from 10.30am - 4pm.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Hadrian Park has organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun. Visitors can look forward to live entertainment, art sessions with local school children, and a delicious afternoon tea.

Elwick Grange is celebrating creative communities, and visitors can enjoy arts and crafts with pupils from Eldon Grove School, pottery decorating with Hartlepotz, and nail art sessions.

The Willows care home will be making music with local nursery, Martonside Nursery, as well as offering face painting, and providing live entertainment from Dan Walker. Visitors can also enjoy a summer-themed buffet, including candy floss and doughnuts.

Marsha Tuffin, home manager at Hadrian Park, said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here atHadrian Park.”

Wendy Winspear acting home manager at Elwick Grange, added:  “We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this June. We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us to open our doors to the local people of Cleveland again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”

Julie Gregory, home manager at The Willows, concluded: “Everyone at The Willows is getting excited for our Care Home Open Day event – it’s always great to see new faces visiting our home, as well as welcoming old friends, and I know this year will be just the same.”
