On Friday 28th June, the team at Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event from 1pm-3pm, while Glastonbury Court, on Glastonbury Road, will be welcoming guests from 2pm-4.30pm on Saturday 29th June.
The events celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.
Both homes have organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun for all. Davers Court will be celebrating the day with cocktail making and
live entertainment from Nigel Woodmason, along with a raffle, face painting, and a delicious barbecue.
At Glastonbury Court, guests can look forward to a showcase of residents’ artwork, plus live entertainment and a tasty barbecue.
Sophie Evans, deputy home manager at Davers Court, said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here at Davers Court.”
Sharlene Van Tonder, home manager at Glastonbury Court, added: “We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this June. We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us to open our doors to the local people of Bury St Edmunds again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”
As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Davers Court and Glastonbury Court will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the events.
